The Internet Pinball Serial Number Database or IPSND collects serial numbers of
pinball machines and publishes a database of these on the Internet. Our goal is
to make available a registration of all pinball machines in existence and allow
tools for slicing, dicing and visualization of the data.

Locating Serial Numbers on a Pinball Machine:
Finding serial numbers on a game can sometimes be quite challenging. They are commonly
hidden, painted over, destroyed or just in non-obvious places. The main difficulty
is that manufacturers put their serial numbers in a variety of places in and out
of the game and then they often changed the location of the serial number as time
went on. Several manufacturers used a consistent numbering system for many years
and others changed their formats often. In addition, there are frequently numbers
on a game that might not be the serial number at all, it could be a part number,
an inspector number or something that has no connection to the actual serial number
at all.
This page is a reference on how to locate serial numbers for all manufacturers in
the database. The nice part is that you can add your own tips and suggestions for
other people to read as well. I have added initial comments on the information that
I have from Bill Ung out of the original Internet Pinball Project (now defunct).
Feel free to submit new information on serial number locations specific to each
manufacturer and appropriate time period.

The newer Gottlieb/Premier games have a sticker, located near the left flipper, on the wall of the bottom arch, facing the upper-end of the playfield. The serial numbers here have always been in-tact. I guess operators munge the ones they find on the fronts of the cabinets, but perhaps most of them don't know where Gottlieb/Premier hides them. Unfortunately, G/P, to the best of our knowledge, do not post anywhere on the game, the original manufacturing date.

On games manufactured in the 80's the serial numbers seem to be stamped inside the cabinet next to the transformer on the cabinet. The serial numbers are generally 4-digits and are stamped in large black numbers.

My G/P Rock machine has the stamped serial as Jess mentioned right over near the transformer on the cabinet bottom (see my picture I attached to my SN submission). Mine ALSO has the same serial number written in BLACK MARKER on the back of the coin box on the top. Hope that helps a little bit!

On my Street Fighter II the serial number is also on the plastic over the launcher. It is almost invisible - you have to look from an angle and have the light just right

Operation: Thunder - Stamped in black on the bottom inside of the cabinet, just inside the coin door. 5 digit. There is also another number stamped beside it looks like an "E-28" or "F-28" Anyone know what it is?
